Parties, pee and pies

It's mditerm time here in Saskatomb and everyone's been walking around like a zombie. Even Lola, feline spawn of Lucifer, has been zombie-ish. She's taken to attacking anything she can get her little paws on, including my food.

I'll be eating dinner and suddenly, I wont even know she's in the room but this pair of ears emerges from across the table and before I know what's going on, she on top of the table, lunging for my precious salad.

The stupid thing is that she doesn't wolf it down like your average animal. Oh no. She doesn't like to scarf stuff down. She likes to LICK everything, sniff it, and then leave.

Fortunately, my roomies have realised that their little kitten is quite possibly possessed and have armed me with a spray bottle filled with water.

My favortie passtime is to hide in the pantry and leave some catnip on the dinner table so she jumps up and then I spray at her from the crack in the door and she freaks out and thinks God's just smote her.

I love animals. Really I do.

Speaking of which, I had another wonderful interaction with an animal yesterday in which a sheep peed on my brand new shoes while my bare feet were still in them.

That's right. My feet and my precious new black ballet flats were completely drenched in sheep's pee (what do you think of these vindictive creatures now Salima?!). Now what I was doing wearing black ballet flats and no socks whilst handling a sheep, I can't tell you. Only that I didn't have any socks with me at all that day and the thought of sticking my bare feet in my rubber boots was a little bit more than I could bear.

Later on that day, in what I suppose was a severe form of karma, I had to kill the sheep. It was our surgery lab and I was the anaesthetist and at the end of the lab, it was my job to euthanize the animal.

I have to tell you, it was no walk in the park for me and it sure as heck was no fun for the sheep. It was already under anaeasthesia so all I had to do was inject it with about 30mL of "blue juice" which is a vet slang term for euthanasia solution. It's dyed blue/purple so we never confuse it with our other drugs and inject it by accident.

I injected it as fast as I could but the stuff is like syrup and by the time I was done, I pulled out my stethescope to listen to the heart. Nothing. Not a sound. It was creepy cus all lab, I'd been the one monitoring her heart and lungs and they were super noisy all lab. Lub dub and WHOOSH each time her heart beat and she took a breath. The silence was the creepiest thing I've ever listened to in vet school.

I also got cow blood spurted all over me today. We had to catheterize cows and you'd think for having wet leather for skin that they'd essentially not really feel a tiny needle prick. Well you'd be wrong cus they are the freaking wimpiest animals ever for needle pricks!

The damned thing bellowed and went crazy every time we stuck it and at one point, she just collapsed in the shoot and our prof had to come over and rescue us out of that one. Poor cow. To be fair, I was sticking this needle in its vein that was so thick that I had to take a scalpel and cut through the cow's skin first before I could jab it into the vein. I swear it was like 4mm in diameter. So not cool.

ALright. Enough vet talk. Onto the good stuff.

So what's one thing you've always wanted to do at least once in your life? The yummiest, most delicious and wonderful thing you could ever participate in?

If you guessed a PIE-EATING CONTEST, then you guessed right!!!!

And if you're thinking right now, "What? Vivian's in a pie eating contest?!!!" then you'd be right again!!!!

That's correct people. In what I can only call a moment of insanity (driven by a lack of breakfast yesterday morning), I decided to sign up for the halloween pie-eating contest at school.

There are only five of us entered into the contest and I believe I'm the only girl. To be perfectly honest, I don't know what the heck I was thinking and I'm kind of freaked out. If you know anything about me, you'd know that I'm the world's slowest eater. But then and again, you'd also know that I love pie!

So hey. Even if I make an ass of myself in front of the whole school, lose the contest and get whipped cream on my cool Tibetan village woman halloween costume (complete with homemade yak!), at least I'll get free pie!!!!!

And then, after all the pie I'll be consuming, i'm going to be hopping on a bus and going on a pub crawl. I managed to somehow get coersced into going on the pub crawl even though I have a midterm on Tueday. Orginally, only one girl from our class was attending the pub crawl and all the rest of the people were first years and second years. She got all upset and said she wasn't going to go on the pub crawl then unless five other people from the class went with her. Then she changed her mind and said, "Hey, either we get five other ppl to go on this pub crawl with me or hey! I'd go if just you from our class showed up!"

"So I'm equivalent to having five people from our class attend?"

"Yup."

No girl can withstand that kind of flattery, I don't care how confident she is. So yeah, I got suckered in.

And that's the update from this end.

This could all be a big mistake. And then and again it could be the yummiest, most delicious, fun and yakky time ever.

Here's hoping. . .
