Blue Christmas

Had a delightful Christmas spent AT WORK where, despite the fact that no one came in, I was forced to stay from 2-10pm and try not to feel too sorry for myself.
Gabe, the one doing the residency, had Christmas day off (and the 5 days around Christmas off and laughed at me when I had to go back to work today) and was nice enough to volunteer to sit there with me in my misery at work.
This has been my second Christmas spent working animal emergency. And like last year, it sucked.
*cue dramatic 'Gone With the Wind' theme music.*
As God is my witness, I will never work animal ER on Christmas again.
*Vivian grasps her stethescope in her fist and stares off at the horizon while the wind whips her hair around her face.*
Right. Well, at least I don't have to work on New Years day.
I did have a chance to have a real Christmas dinner with my aunt's family on Christmas eve so I guess I can't whine that much. My aunt completely spoiled me and made every delicious food one can think of and force fed it to me. I felt like a cross between a goldfish and one of those foie gras geese that just keep choking down the white bread despite their overflowing crops and fatty livers. By the time the last course came, I wanted to shout, "BRING ME THE COOKIE. I mean WOOKIE. BRING ME THE WOOKIE."

My little cousins and nephew also kindly let me play Wii with them all day before dinner and I took pleasure in beating them at every game.
"TAKE THAT YOU LITTLE PUNKS! IN YO' FACE!!!"
"I'm only 8 years old."
"Bite me."
It was fun.
I also got a chance to go out and watch the new "Avatar" movie on one of my days off.
The movie was visually stunning but with a horrible storyline and terrible character development. I spent most of the time behind my 3D glasses alternating between ogling and rolling my eyes.
I am in love with the little floaty ctenophore thingies in the movie though. (See below for a pic of a ctenophore. Couldn't find a still of the thingies from the movie. If you've seen the movie, you'll know what i'm talking about. If not, watch it and you'll love them too!)

I can't help it. It's the marine biologist geek in me.
And that has pretty much been my Christmas season.
Hope you had better Christmases than I and that you are all having lovely time off to spend with your loved ones. Till next time, stay warm and keep your animals safe.
