Sunshine, maggots and fat cats

Overnight, the weather in Maryland has changed from the refreshing breezes of spring into the dense, sticky heat waves of summer. My attempts to run outside have ended in flashbacks of my heat stroke episode in India in which I vomited for 7 hours straight.
Fortunately, I sensed the light-headedness and nausea before anything horrible happened and I cooled down in some shade before running back home to the refuge of Gabe's air conditioned apartment. I kept running, if only to get myself out of the sun and back inside sooner.
Unfortunately, Malcolm had a chance to rub up against my sweaty legs and give me a pair of hairy white leggings before I could fully cool down.
He's currently shedding his winter coat and Ive been needing to vacuum every second day. I was woken up by his persistent meowing this morning only to find that he had puked up a hair ball and a half-digested rubber band on the living room rug.
Bless his furry little heart.
In accordance with the warmer weather, my clinic has become busier and busier. I've now witnessed my second "maggot dog" in the past week (nothing as bad as the first maggot dog but gross nonetheless) and I will die a happy woman if I never see another one ever again. This one was a little bit more covert and less in-yo-face than the first maggot dog and I came upon the wriggling little surprises only after shaving off a giant hair mat.

They got all caught up in my clippers and I had to stop and clean off the blade several times.
All I can say is: WHY ME?! WHHYYYYYY?!!! NO MORE MAGGOTS!!!!
Otherwise, life has been fine.
Gabe and I finally decided to head to Vancouver for our vacation. The only question remaining is: What are we going to do with Malcolm while we are gone?
The thought of leaving the bag of dry food open and just getting a giant litter box has crossed my mind.
Then I realized that Malcolm would probably eat himself to death given the chance and then fill up the litter box with poop within 48 hours, regardless of how much litter I use, like he always does.
And that's all the news from this end.
Till next time, keep cool and just say no to maggots.
