Just got back from a delicious dinner of sushi and Thai food and am rounding out my gluttonous life with a bowl of pistachio gelato. (It's left over from the freezer of some friends who are moving to New York, but hey, have I ever turned down free food?).
It's my precious day off and I have spent it doing exactly what I planned to do: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Work has been insane for the past few days and it's literally been non-stop from the second I run in to the second I finally give up and leave.
The other morning, I walked in and three people simultaneously jumped on me before I even had a chance to drop off my purse:
"Good morning Dr. Lau! Your appointment's in room 2."
"There's a call for you on line 101."
"I have to ask you about your in patient. He doesn't look good at all."
It didn't stop till 2 hours past when I was supposed to leave and I finally went, "F*CK IT! I'M LEAVING!"
So it's been like that for two days and I've got my one precious day off before I head back for another 8 days straight of it.
Blech.
We've also had a slew of animals with the most awesome names ever. Most of them have the usual names like "Fluffy" and "Monkey" and "Chewy" but it's the last names that kill me. We've had a bunch of them in with the last name "Man" and "Buts" which, if paired with the aforementioned names makes for much immature giggling prior to walking into the exam room.
Also, my ongoing joke for one of my surgery patients called "Slim" who is situated in the ICU with her litter mate is running over to their kennels and going, "Will the real Slim kitty please stand up?"
My techs think I'm crazy.
In other news, I've been watching a lot of "the IT crowd" on my days off and forgot what an awesome show it is.
It's also useful! When our serum chemistry machine broke down last night, I turned to my tech and said (in a bad Irish accent), "Have you tried turning it on and off again?"

Unfortunately, she's never watched the show and thought I was speaking in my weird Canadian accent again, so she gamely said, "Oh! No, I was going to try that next. *Pause* IT WORKED! You fixed it!"
What I was tempted to say was, "Do I AMAZE you?" in my best goth voice,

but instead, I smiled politely and walked away.
And that's all from this end. Like I said, I have several days of work ahead of me and I'm preparing for the worst.
Till next time, if your last name is something like "Buttz", do not name your dog "Tickles" and remember, goths have feelings too . . .

A gay musical... called "Gay". That's quite gay. Gay musical... Aren't all musicals gay? This must be, like, the gayest musical ever made.
